Why low-cost therapy sessions?

After a number of years as a private practitioner, I'm well aware that for many people the full cost of counselling, with it being generally accepted practice to charge between £40 to £100 a session, is sadly beyond their needs. Anger management is even more expensive being a specialist field.

I'm now able to offer low cost counselling and anger management sessions for clients residing in the Furness Peninsula. I've priced these sessions at £27.50 and £44.00 respectively. I feel this represents a realistic balance that provides a substantial discount to those who cannot afford full price therapy and my ability to achieve a reasonable living from my work.

Clients who chose to work with me will be able to access an unlimited number of sessions at my special prices. Please be aware that there is a limit to the number of clients I am able to see at a time. When my client list is at capacity, a waiting list will be formed for future clients.

Experience a unique integrated approach

Schemas

Working with Early Maladaptive Schemas (EMS) is an approach that often works well with people who have had limited success with CBT. Here a deep dive is taken into the past and from that a clear understanding develops of how our past affects our present (and future). With such understanding it's then possible to chance those dysfunctional ways of behaving into more positive ones, Although this is often longer term work, I've found it to be very effective and the results can be quite transformative, especially when the effects of trauma are acknowledged. The approach also encompasses Schema Modes which are complimentary to Inner Parts and the Inner Wounded Child work

The Effects of Trauma

Trauma is something that can be deeply individually ("What's traumatic for you is traumatic for you") as well as a collective experience, common across many of us. Often in therapy, specific aspects of our experiences and history aren't recognised as traumatic when in fact they are. Trauma occurs at many points across our lifetime, particularly in the early years. I've found that incidents when we are little children or earlier do have great significance and can lie inside us unresolved only to be triggered for us later in life In the moment this produces a noticeable, inappropriate reaction which is attributed to the immediate situation and thus our focus goes to that whilst the real healing work needs to be centred on that triggering incident from long ago, often lost to memoroy and apparently beyond recollection

Internal Parts and the Inner Wonded Child

There are a number of therapeutic approaches that utilise principles of parts therapy, many of which are often which are quite prescriptive and limiting as to what defines an allowable, identifiable part. I’m much happier to allow my client to bring forward whatever (or whoever) constitutes a ‘part’ for them, encouraging all parts, whatever their role, to have space to express themselves with respect to other parts. This is particularly empowering when working with those Schemas and Childhood Trauma, enabling hurt, historically distressed parts, such as the wounded child, a clear identity and voice. Working in this way, a client is able to look inside themselves and understand exactly what is pulling and pushing them, and bring a greater sense of balance and control to inner conflicts and a heightened sense of a unified, united self with a clear sense of direction and purpose

Anger Mangement

Anger Management

Anger Management is a more specialised branch of therapy, and incorporates principles of counselling, aspects of cognitive behavioural therapy and psycho-education. People often come to anger management in a highly distressed state as the consequences of their behaviour become apparent and unbearable. Facing consequences such as a loss of a relationship, loss of property, loss of financial benefit or even loss of personal freedom  - prison -  means anger management may be the only option, especially when a court orders it.

This means that an individual's motivation and engagement must be high to engage in the process otherwise success is difficult to achieve.

SGRD Therapy

As I've been trained in both LGBTI+ Affirmative Counselling and Sexuality, Gender, and Relationship Diversity Therapy (SGRDT), you can can expect a supportive and inclusive environment tailored to your unique experiences. I'll prioritize affirmation of your sexual and  / or gender identity, fostering a sense of safety and acceptance. You'll have the opportunity to explore your identity, relationship dynamics, and any other mental health concerns without fear of judgment. Woven within both approaches are therapeutic techniques such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy, which will be employed to help you challenge negative thought patterns and enable you to reframe your narratives. I'll actively listen, validate feelings, and provide tools to navigate societal challenges, stigma, and internalized issues. Overall, you can anticipate a collaborative process aimed at promoting self-acceptance, resilience, and improved well-being in a respectful and empowering setting.
